June 8th, 2006 | NEW 12" MINUS 8 FEAT BORIS VON DER BURG - NOBODY'S DEAN COMING SOON ON MOLE Minus 8 - Nobody´s Dean (EP)
There´s only a handful of internationally well known DJs, producers and remixers from Switzerland. Robert Jan Meyer aka Minus 8 is one of them, brining high quality music for sophisticated listeners into the world. Minus 8 is covering a wide spectrum of contemporary electronic music: Electro House, House Classics, Downbeat, Drum & Bass and Nu-Jazz are the fundaments the trained architect Robert Jan Meyer is basing his musical visions bathed in light. Consequently the last years saw him releasing on high profile imprints such as Compost or Stereo Deluxe, filling both critics as well as music lovers with enthusiasm. After his fifth album "Eclectica" Minus 8 is back with another marvellous EP on Mole Listening Pearls. Nobody's Dean (Kiska Version) is a bitter-sweet homage with a wink to James Dean. The vocals by charismatic Boris von der Burg (singer and songwriter of the Swiss band Mikromops) feature loads of cutting irony. But exactly this fact in combination with electro-new-wave influences and the right dose of pop appeal make this track a driving good mood song! I bet you´ll catch yourself singing "He´s a James Dean evergreen". No doubt! Don't Go (Kiska Version) is thrilling us from the first second on with its smooth flow, catchy melody, congenial harmonies and gorgeous arrangement. This track is the mirage of a beautiful summer day that we never want to go by!

As usual, for the 9th issue of the successful compilation series "Science Fiction Jazz", music freak Robert Jan Meyer a.k.a. Minus 8 applies all tracks for the primeness to the topical music scene. "Science Fiction Jazz" detects new trends, developed by future oriented artists.
Again, the compilation creates new high-class standards. This time, the 9th issue of "Science Fiction Jazz" circles in an rather up tempo feeling. The tracks chosen by Minus 8 float less, but pelt more on warp speed through the musical space. All tracks point into the future and show a long half-life. The structures of "Science Fiction Jazz 9" are simple and dominat (Justus Köhncke - time code), the tracks are optimistic and powerful (Moonbootica - Bulldog beats, Mike Litt – Hard Times). Bonds from the beginnings of electronic music are brought into new constellations of a miraculous retro style (Product.01 - Heart Ov Glass).
Not only beats and sounds dominate the future, also words, lyrics and poetry are set by into the center of interest (Yonderboi - Were You Thinking Of Me?). Two older pieces are also found on the Compilation: Dave Angel - Airbourne in the Remix from the year 1995 of Carl Craig whose timelessness and hardy avant-garde will not lose relevance during the next years. Or Maurice - This Is Acid (1988), as a reference to one of the most important Acid House Tracks. "Science Fiction Jazz 9" shows a kind of intensive chaos, that music needs to stay alive, it makes music exciting and sophisticated.
